Scuba diving vacations

Many options await the newly certified scuba diving student when it comes to a scuba diving vacation. There are resorts, liveaboards and planned excursions to the most beautiful spots in the world.

There are several resorts that are built specifically for the scuba diving vacationers so that they don’t have to travel far, just outside the doors of the resort, so they can begin diving into the beautiful blue waters. Most of these resorts are found in the Florida Keys, Hawaii and several of the Jamaican Islands. These all-inclusive resorts are especially made for people who don’t like to lounge around a pool all day and would rather be out scuba diving than reading a book and catching a tan. They have a staff of diving experts who take you out to the coolest and most beautiful dives near the resort and you can pick any time of day because they run these ‘tours’ all day long. Most will rent you all the equipment you will need for a great dive and the rest is included with the price of your room. Sometimes the equipment is also included; it just depends on where you are staying.

Liveaboards are large ships in which you stay on while on your vacation and you get the experience to be at the dive sites as the boat arrives without the waiting for the ship at the shore. You sail from dive site to dive site and enjoy as much time at each as the captain allows, usually half a day or a full day, depending on what type of attraction is at the dive site, such as a sunken ship or plane wreckage. Or there could be several layers to the dive site.

Many hotels and resorts will arrange for its guests to go on scuba diving excursions or tours. They will arrange everything and you pay a single price for a day of diving. The boat will pick you up in the morning at a specific time and place and take you to a predestinated dive site, one that probably is beautiful and has seen a lot of scuba divers. If you don’t mind scuba diving with large groups, then this is for you. However, if you would rather dive with just your family or friends, you can always find a certified diver around the marina willing to take you on a tour for a reasonable price, but make sure that they are certified so that nothing happens.

There are hundreds of destinations for scuba diving vacations in the United States and around the world. In the United States there is the Florida Keys, around the Texas Gulf of Mexico, the Carolina’s and even near New York and New Jersey there can be some fine scuba diving experiences. But the most exotic and exciting locations has to be in the tropics, Jamaica, the Caribbean and places in Australia called the Great Barrier Reef.

Another place to travel to to see some amazing sites would be in the arctic where there is cold water scuba diving, but you must be well practiced in this style of scuba diving.
